MARINALG INTERNATIONAL is a  worldwide Association founded in 1975 under the French status of "Loi 1901", between French, Danish, Norwegian and US companies and now has members on every continent.

Missions and objectives
The main purpose of the Association is to promote the image and use of seaweed-derived hydrocolloids in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

The Association represents the regulatory interest of the seaweed-processing industry before various international bodies such as the Codex Alimentarius, the European Union and national authorities, supplying documentation and opinions on a range of subjects of interest to the Association.

Marinalg is a recognized and active-non-governmental organization (NGO) to the Codex Alimentarius and has regular contacts with the Joint Experts Committee for Food Additives (JECFA).

Organization and means
Any company manufacturing seaweed-derived hydrocolloids in accordance with internationally accepted specifications can become a member of the Association, with the approval at a majority of the members at the General Assembly meeting.

The affairs of the Association are managed by a Board of Directors representing each industry and by a permanent staff.

A general Assembly is convened once a year.
Marinalg is able to coordinate or sponsor common studies (physico-chemical, toxicological) by agreement of all concerned members. The management of such studies takes place within technical groups that are set up, or adjourned, as needed.
